It looks too perfect to be real — a massive grey spiral floating in space like a ghostly lens flare.

The whirling shape, which was photographed in the Winged Horse constellation by the Hubble Space Telescope, has left astronomers astonished and puzzled as they try to determine its origin.
One of the theories is that the phenomenon is actually the remnants of a dying star which is oribiting around another star hidden by dust.
It is believed the star takes 800 years to make a full orbit and the spiral pattern is created by the particles it loses during its journey.
The particles are believed to be travelling outwards at nearly 50,000km/h.
Astronomers say the sight is one of the most perfect geometrical shapes ever witnessed.
"It's an amazing picture ... It shows the universe is full of wonders," UK astronomer Robin Scagell told The Sun.
